What Essential Oils Should I Avoid During Pregnancy?

November 7, 2009 by Adriana Noton · Leave a Comment

As any soon-to-be-mother knows, pregnancy can be a mixed bag of highs and lows. While you are excited about meeting your new bundle of joy, observing a hundred and one dos and donts can present something of a challenge, especially if you are a creature of habit.

Take for example, the use of essential oils.

Found in many spas, candles and aromatherapy products, they can present a problem to a mothers unborn child. The problem is many women use these items for holistic skin care regimens or a relaxation tools. Being told that they can no longer use these products may cause a sense of despair as impending motherhood can cause skin reactions and stress.

However, it is best for a pregnant woman to stay away from these oils. Understanding why could go a long way in aiding women to firm their resolve in avoiding these substances.

Harmful affects of essential oils

Botanical products are normally very beneficial to adult humans, but these same oils could cause birth defects or premature delivery, especially when used in certain doses.

This is because some of these oils produce hormone like affects that can trick the uterus into contracting. Others, while normally okay, can be highly toxic to an unborn child. Since oils can quickly absorb into the skin and into the blood stream, this is not a good thing.

A few oils to avoid

While it may seem like a bit of an over kill, you would be wells advised to consider what oils may not be safe to use.

There are literally hundreds of oils that are off limits during your pregnancy. To be certain which ones may cross the placenta and pose a threat to your unborn, ask your doctor or do an online search.

There are even a few pregnancy forums where mothers gather to swap anecdotes, ideas and advice. You may be able to get the info you need from such boards.

While the list can be fairly comprehensive, there are few common oils that most people use that would be best to avoid, and they are:

Basil, black pepper, citronella, clove , jasmine , lemon , nutmeg , peppermint, rose wintergreen, rosemary and chamomile in certain doses.

Many of these are uterine stimulants and can cause contractions. Causing early contractions, as you may know, may result in premature labor.

To avoid this, stay away from these particular oils altogether. Again, when in doubt about an essential oil, consult your OB/GYN for guidance.

Safe alternatives for Mom and baby

Women who find that their skin is now breaking out or are seeking new ways to relax and unwind may feel at a loss of what to do.

The answer is relatively simple.

There are many products especially made for the pregnant woman that contain organic ingredients like Shea butter oil, which is safe for use during pregnancy. While these may be a tad bit on the expensive side, you can console yourself by the thought that a) you will only be using them for a few months and b) you are doing it so your baby can remain healthy.

Besides, dont forget that daddy can be an indispensible help during this time. Ask him for occasional gentle messages to relieve stress and promote relaxation. You may be surprised, but the request will make him feel useful in a time where he may feel left out.

A happy, healthy pregnancy

Being pregnant can be an amazing time in a womans life. It can be hard and extremely stressful, yet alternatively rewarding. Yes, there may be things, like essential oils, that you have to worry about in conjunction with a million and one other things, but when you finally hold your child in your arms, giving up a few habits here and there wont seem quite so bad.

Matching a Skin Care Product to Your Skin

November 4, 2009 by Adriana Noton · Leave a Comment

The right skin care product can do wonders for your skin, but most people aren't sure exactly how to find that perfection product that does what they want it to. Instead, they bounce around, trying first one product and then another and never really getting the right one. If you are one of these people who simply hasn't found the perfect skin care product, it's time to learn just what to look for in the ideal skin care items.

Know Your Skin Type

Do you know what your skin type is:If you have oily or dry skin, it's probably pretty apparent which you are, but combination skin can be tricky to diagnose. With combination skin, the cheeks tend to be dry and even flaky, while the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) are oily. If that sounds like your face, then you probably have combination skin.

It's important to know which skin type you have. If you don't know and you buy a product meant for oily skin, when yours is dry, you won't get the desired results. There's really no point in spending money on a product that won't help your skin the way you need it to.

Check the Ingredients

Even if you don't tend to have sensitive skin, there are certain ingredients that can really be harsh on the skin. Many skin care products have a variety of chemicals in them that can be quite damaging to skin if not used properly and even in small amounts, can cause skin problems. In general, it's better to go with all natural ingredients.

Most people don't really think to check the full ingredient list on their skin care products. It's easy to get distracted by the big "Contains Vitamin E" or other large print ingredients on the front of the bottle. When a product claims to contain a certain ingredient, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's the main ingredient. It's a good idea to take a look at what the entire product is made up of, not just the most popular ingredients.

Just because something uses herbs or real fruits doesn't mean it's ideal for your skin, though. In fact, many natural ingredients are also covered in pesticides which find their way into your skin care items. Fortunately, by choosing organic skin care products, you can avoid this problem. Organic products will be chemical and pesticide free, allowing the skin to breathe and most people won't have any adverse reaction to organic items.

Test It

One of the best ways to be sure that a product is really the right one for you is to simply test it. Once you have chosen a skin care products that has organic ingredients and matches your skin type, it's time to try it out and see how it works for you.

When testing skin care products, you'll want to give them at least a week before making a decision. 3-4 weeks is even better, since it may take a little time for the product to work with your skin, especially if you have pre-existing conditions. For example, if you have particularly dry skin, it could take a couple of weeks for the lotion you use to really penetrate and take effect. The same thing goes for blemish creams and the like. They do tend to take time to work, so give your trial a proper time restriction so you can be sure.

Natural, organic skin care products that have been selected with your particular skin type in mind will always produce better results than those laden with chemicals. They work with the skin to create a healthy epidermis.

Pregnancy Skin Care: Preventing Stretch Marks

November 2, 2009 by Adriana Noton · Leave a Comment

Pregnancy is an amazing experience. Feeling a new life growing inside, kicking at you and responding to your actions is a truly unique experience. You really gain a new appreciation for the abilities of the human body as your stomach stretches beyond anything you had ever imagined to accommodate a new baby. However, there are definite downsides to being pregnant and one of them is the side effect of all that stretching . . . stretch marks.

What Causes Stretch Marks

Stretch Marks occur when the skin is stretched beyond its elasticity. The upper layer stretches and the lower layer of skin tends to tear, causing small rips in the tissue. This results in some rather ugly red marks that feel different from the regular texture of your skin. These will fade to white after your pregnancy, but this can take time and they never really do go away..

Whether or not you will get stretch marks really depends on genetics, the elasticity of your skin and how big you get during the pregnancy. Some women dont grow much at all and have more than sufficient elasticity in their skin to withstand the stretching and remain completely unmarked.

Preventing Stretch Marks

The best way to get rid of Stretch marks is not to get them at all. While 90% of women have the genetic predisposition to stretch marks in pregnancy, that doesnt mean you have to just sit back and let them happen. Prevention is truly the best medicine when it comes to these nasty lines. They may be a banner of your ability to carry a child, but really, most women would prefer to avoid them all together. The best time to start prevention is as soon as you know youre pregnant, long before the skin needs to expand.

Its important to only use organic skin products while pregnant. Most chemicals are not proven safe for your unborn baby and its best to just avoid them. Going organic will give you peace of mind and youll be able to treat your skin without fear of affecting the child inside.

Organic skin products are just as effective against stretch marks, if not more so, than commercial, chemical laden ones. Youll find that natural ingredients work naturally with your skin to soothe it and soften it. Not only will you be preventing stretch marks, youll also be promoting softer, more hydrated skin.

What to Look for in Stretch Mark Prevention Treatments

Certain organic products work better than others against stretch marks. Basically, you want to moisturize your skin and enhance the elasticity. A good prevention cream will also provide some healing power to help any existing tears in the skin heal faster, without getting worse. This is particularly helpful if you are starting treatment later in the pregnancy.

Organic stretch mark creams usually use one or more of the following ingredients:

Shea Butter: By far the most common ingredient used in stretch mark prevention since is one of the best natural moisturizers on the market. It also has healing properties to help with any existing stretch marks. Coconut Oil: A very good moisturizing oil that also enhances elasticity and hastens healing of existing problems.

Olive Oil: Another good moisturizer that helps boost elasticity and soften skin, making it more supple and resistant to tearing.

Any organic skin product designed to treat and prevent stretch marks should include one of the above ingredients for maximum benefit. Often they will have other natural ingredients, as well , to promote healing and enhance the moisturizing effect.

Saffron Rouge is the premiere provider of organic skin care products for adults and babies.

Proper Facial Moisturizing Techniques

November 2, 2009 by Adriana Noton · Leave a Comment

Moisturizing your face daily keeps your skin looking healthy and younger for many years, which is why it is very important to make it a habit to moisturize. Unfortunately, many men and women fail to reach this step in their skincare routines because of being rushed or simply forgetting. Not moisturizing properly can cause wrinkles, cause the skin to be dry, and causes the skin to lose elasticity. These are very important elements to making sure your face looks refreshed and quenched. Even if you don't see the benefits immediately, you will see them as you age. In the end, you will be glad you did it and this goes for both men and women.

However, some men believe that they don't have to moisturize, but this is a common myth. There are facial moisturizers out there for men because it is just as important to delay the aging process as it is for women. Perhaps it is the advertising campaigns for moisturizers that only show women that may be the reason behind this misconception. However, when a man goes to the men's section of the health and beauty department at their local department store, they will find that there are a lot of different moisturizers for them to use as well.

The trick is knowing exactly how to moisturize. There is actually a right way and a wrong way. The wrong way is not going to be as effective as the right way. What you want to do is make sure you get the most out of your facial moisturizer and the only way you're going to do that is by following these tips:

- You want to wash your face every single morning with a moisturizing cleaner that is made just for the face.

- After washing your face with your moisturizing cleaner, you want to pat your face dry. You don't want to rub it because this is considered to be abrasive to the skin.

- If you are a man, you want to shave before you apply any type of product to your face. You want to pay a visit to your health and beauty department at your favorite department store and purchase a shaving cream that is made just for moisturizing the skin.

- If you are a woman, you want to apply the moisturizer before putting on any makeup.

- If you have naturally dry skin, be sure to apply the moisturizer at various points throughout the day.

- At the end of the day, you want to use the face wash you used in the morning to get rid of any dirt that has accumulated on your skin throughout the day. For the women, it is important to remove all makeup.

- You also want to apply a moisturizer before going to bed because when you are asleep is when your body rests and repairs.

By taking these steps, you are properly utilizing your moisturizer by putting it on at the right time during your facial routine. You should clean your face twice a day and throughout the day if your skin is dry. When shopping for a good moisturizer, you want to look at products that have some kind of sun protection. They usually will give you an SPF number and you know the higher the number, the better protection you get from the harmful rays of the sun. This can give you further help in preventing aging and skin cancer. Lastly, be sure to be gentle during washing because you do not want to have to contend with irritation and redness that can be unsightly and uncomfortable.

In order to keep the skin younger and healthier, it's important to use an organic facial moisturizer that protect and nourish your skin. We are the source for organic skin care and aromatherapy products.

Tips for Natural Looking Makeup

November 2, 2009 by Adriana Noton · Leave a Comment

We've all seen women who just plaster their makeup on, looking more like a mannequin than an actual person. If you would rather have a natural beauty, you don`t need to go completely bare, it`s all in how you choose and apply your makeup. Here you`ll learn a few tips to keep your face glowing and lovely without resorting to heavy handed techniques. The trick is to keep it light and to highlight just one area of your face, your eyes or your mouth.

Coverage

When it comes to concealer and foundation, many women tend to cake it on in an attempt to hide blemishes. That tends to result in the cracked face issues that occur a little later in the day. By using the following tips, you can make your face look natural while still covering up those spots and blemishes.

- Opt for tinted moisturizer, it blends and evens out the skin while moisturizing and is so thin that it`s literally unnoticeable. - For heavier coverage, use concealer chosen to blend with your skin to dot over spots and then finish the face with a tinted moisturizer for a lighter look. - Concealers with yellow undertones tend to hide blemishes best.

Eyes

Your eyes are one of the first things people notice, so the last thing you want is for them to focus on how much makeup you`re using! - For long lashes, consider using clear mascara to give them volume without adding too much. - Use foundation lightly applied to your lids for a natural boost. This also brightens the eyes and lays an even foundation for any shadow you wish to apply. - Choose eye shadows that enhance your eye color, blue or green eyes look smoking with pink or brown shadows and brown eyes work well with darker plum shades. - When using eyeliner, stay away from black and unnatural shades. Opt for brown or charcoal grey instead and blend slightly to create a natural line.

Lips

Lips don`t have to be bright to be noticeable. If you want your mouth to stand out, but still aim to looknatural make up, leave your eyes simple and focus the color on your mouth.

- Avoid glittery or super glossy lipstick, which looks very made up. - To choose the appropriate color, bite your lips gently to see what color comes up. Match the lipstick color to this. - Make your color last longer with a clear lip gloss to set it. - For days when you want your eyes to be the focus, stick to just a transparent gloss for your lips and let your natural color shine.

Cheeks

Blush should give the impression that you`ve just jogged half a mile, with a natural glow spreading over the cheekbones. Be sure you choose the right colors and don`t overdo it, the attention should be drawn to your eyes or lips, not your cheekbones.

- Check your cheek color after a bit of exercise to choose the right blush. Alternatively, you can just pinch them to bring up the color, but this won`t tell you where the blush should be applied. - Apply blush in the same areas that you naturally color when exercising for a truly natural looking makeup. - Keep it light. You just want a dusting of color, nothing too obvious.

Natural looking makeup lets you look your best without making it appear that you`ve had help. People will be impressed at how fresh your face looks. Even with a very little amount of makeup, you`ll feel beautiful and ready to face the world.

Organic Sunscreens: Are they Effective as Regular Sunscreens?

November 2, 2009 by Adriana Noton · Leave a Comment

We know that regular sunscreen is quite effective in protecting the skin against the sun's harmful UV rays when the proper SPF is used. Although it is important for us to have sun exposure because of the Vitamin D benefits, it also consists of harmful UVA and UVB rays. Just look at all of the skin cancer cases that develop every single year. Most of the older people who develop skin cancer had a majority of their unprotected sun exposure in their younger years. Skin cancer doesn't exist on any specific timeline. It develops when it is ready to. That is why it is very important to use sunscreen, but with the many different kinds, it is difficult to determine which to use, especially since consumers have a choice between traditional sunscreen and organic sunscreens that use all natural ingredients.

Any time we hear the words "all natural," we know that it is good for us. However, we also realize that there must be a reason why some of the same types of products do not contain all natural ingredients. Is it because they are better or because they are more cost-effective for the manufacturer to make? We have to take into consideration that there was a time in which our ancestors only had natural means to treat and prevent disease. Somewhere along the line we found more cost-effective ways to make products by creating man-made chemicals that got the job done. This happened with sunscreen.

People love to sunbathe and with the continuing reports that the sun is becoming more and more dangerous, the sunscreen market is booming. More people are protecting their children and themselves from the harmful rays that can cause skin cancer. No one wants to think of their children having to contend with such an awful disease, no matter how minor it may be if caught on time. But we love to go to the beach and we love to swim in our pools, so we have to take care of our skin in the process.

The truth is that you shouldn't really have any more than 15 minutes of sun exposure each day in order to receive the necessary amount of Vitamin D. Any more than 15 minutes is what causes damage, so you need to use a sunscreen. A good organic sunscreens is going to be just as effective as a regular sunscreen and without any of the man-made ingredients. All of the ingredients are all natural, which means they are derived from plants. In other words, the ingredients are extracted from the wonders of nature that actually work.

The main difference between an organic sunscreen and a regular sunscreen aside from their ingredients is that organic sunscreens will break down over time. However, if used consistently over the summer months, that shouldn't matter because you'll easily be able to use a majority of what is in the bottle if not all of it. However, when you look at the bottle of a regular sunscreen, you will notice that there are both organic and inorganic ingredients, so eventually regular sunscreen has to be disposed of anyway.

So if you want to spend more than 15 minutes in the sun, be sure to invest in a good organic sunscreen and apply it to all skin areas that are exposed to the sunlight. That way, you can still receive the benefits of the sun while protecting your skin from the harmful UV rays. You are also not putting inorganic ingredients on your skin. Everything that is inside a bottle of organic sunscreen is just as natural as you are.

Organic sunscreen remain on the surface of the skin, and don't get absorbed into the body which is a much healthier alternative. We are the source for organic skin care products.

Different Skin Types calls for Different types of Facial masks

October 31, 2009 by Adriana Noton · Leave a Comment

Because our skin is the body's largest organ and the first line of defense against external harsh substances, we need to take proper care of it. There are many types of skin, so why would the same facial mask work for all? There are many choices available, and one that suits your particular skin texture.

Facial masks work deep in the skin to clean, firm and tighten the pores and exfoliate dead cells. They generally contain minerals, fruits, vitamins and other plant extracts. Facial masks consist of two types; creamy lotion which is applied and then rinsed off with tepid water, or peel-off masks. Always clean the face before applying a mask. Ideally the skin should be warm. If your skin is oily, or oily and dry, the best choice is a mask that is clay or mud-based. Clay absorbs excess oils and clears and prevents blackheads. Clay also deep cleans the pores, and detoxifies the skin without drying. If you have sensitive skin, most clay or mud masks are suitable. Oily skin also does well with facial masks based on lemon, tomato, potato and witch hazel. Oatmeal is also an ideal ingredient for oily skin; the oatmeal will provide an exfoliant as well as smoothing and soothing. Apples and honey-based masks are also ideal for oily skin.

For dry skin, the best choice is a moisturizing mask. These facial masks clean deep down, while adding moisture to the skin. Moisturizing masks are left on the face for 10 or 15 minutes, gently rubbed into the skin before removing. These masks plump and soften the skin, leaving a noticeable difference when used regularly. Facial masks made with yogurt, avocado, olive oil or egg are also wonderful to moisturize dry skin. Masks made with fruits that contain a lot of water, such as berries, citrus, peaches and pears will also moisturize dry skin.

Those with dull skin will do best with an exfoliating mask. These facial masks are often based on fruit extracts. They remove the top layer of dead skin cells, leaving a smooth and glowing skin. Exfoliating masks peel off, like removing an adhesive bandage. These masks should not be used near the eye area, where the skin is more delicate.

Normal skin can use most any type of facial mask. If you are looking for a glow, try exfoliating masks. If you want moisture, especially during winter when skin may dry from central heating, use a moisturizing mask. Masks are available for deep cleaning, or perhaps you would look for a facial mask for sensitive skin. The mature face needs a facial mask that will provide firming and tightening of the skin on the face and neck. Skin dries as it ages, so you may want a facial mask that also moisturizes.

Firming masks increase the moisture in the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and leaving the skin with a youthful glow. Firming masks are gently massaged into the skin, left for 10 or 15 minutes, then gently rubbed off. Egg-based facial masks also work to firm and refresh mature skin. Almonds contain vitamin E, which nourishes skin. Any almond-based facial mask will brighten and rejuvenate mature skin.

When taking care of our facial skin, it is important one uses the right product to suit their particular skin type. Fortunately, there is a facial mask to suit every skin type to help improve the skin resulting in a healthy and radiant glow.

After a long day at work, spa Whitby and facials Oshawa are perfect destinations for individuals to relax. Acne Ajax helps skin to be invigorated, allowing people to experience a vibrant glow.

Treat Brittle Nails with Extra Care

October 27, 2009 by Adriana Noton · Leave a Comment

You'll know if you have brittle nails. They chip and crack with the slightest touch and are a constant source of irritation. Chances are, if you have brittle nails, you have ended up with a few messed up manicures. However, if you take care of those fingernails, you'll be able to enjoy long, gorgeous nails again. It just means a little extra work.

Daily Care The first thing you need to do is ensure that your nails are in good condition. Since brittle ones tend to split if they are clipped, the best way to remove damaged areas and ensure that they are all the same length is to file. A nail file is gentle enough when used correctly that it won't break the tips. You can do this by filing gently in only one direction. Using an emery board or glass file is also much safer than a metal file.

Avoid too much exposure to water, since this causes the cells in the nail tissue to swell up and separate. If you find that they tear easily and are soft, rather than hard, then chances are you have spent too much time with your hands in water. The opposite is true of hard fingernails. When they are hard and brittle, it's more likely that chemicals from excessive polish or treatments has taken a toll. In this case, you will be better off leaving your hands naked for a couple of weeks until the brittle nail has grown out. Remember to let your nails breathe in between manicures. This can also occur, however, if your job involves handling chemicals or cleaners. Using rubber gloves can help.

Moisturizing and Polishing There are some moisturizers specifically designed for fingernails. These can be very helpful in keeping them softer and less likely to break. You can also use hand lotion applied to the entire hand, including the nails.

Consider using a strengthening polish as a base coat or even as a single coat for a few days. If you use nail polish remover, avoid using it more than once a week, since this can damage the nail and cause it to dry out by removing the natural oils that are secreted to keep your hands healthy.

Keep in mind that a manicure, while beautiful to look at, seals your nails and prevents them from getting air. Over time, continuously covering them with polish can cause problems and worsen brittleness. It's a good idea to let your hands breathe once in a while and spend some days without any polish at all, just to let them recover. Even if you feel naked, it's worth it to keep your nails healthy and strong, as they will stand up to far more in the long run. You can also look for natural nail polishes, which will affect the nail much less and can reduce the issues faced by constantly applying polish.

Looking after brittle nails can require a bit of extra time, but as long as you let them air out sometimes, keep them moisturized with natural hand cream and avoid chemicals or soaking in water for too long, they should be strong and healthy. Keep an eye on them and be sure to treat your fingernails with care.

Keep skin healthy with organic beauty products. Providing a variety of anti wrinkle creams, organic hand creams, hair treatments and body oil products to help keep you looking young and fabulous. Grab a totally unique version of this article from the Uber Article Directory
