Danger In Prescription Drug Addiction

When someone says "drug addiction", what do you think of? Most would say alcohol, cigarettes or cocaine.
But what about addictions to other substances that are not harmful to your mind or body when taken properly? I am talking about prescription drugs.
Hospitals use prescription drugs all over the world for many reasons. Their are pain relief drugs, drugs for disorders of the psyche, and many other applications.
They are created to help people. But when these drugs are abused, they can be just as harmful and just as addictive.
One reason that prescription drugs are so addictive is psychological. They are designed to help so it creates a mental trap for people.
Everyone know that cocaine and cigarettes kill people everyday. But the pain medicine you family doctor gives you for your back problems is far less intimidating, and thus it is easier for people to fall into abusing them.
This also makes it harder for those suffering from addiction to seek help. If they are abusing prescription drugs their doctor handed them, they often don't see that they have a problem because their doctor prescribed the medicine to them.
People may not see how dangerous they are, but often people die when abusing prescription drugs for the very first time.
If you know anyone that is suffering from an addiction to prescription drugs, do not hesitate to intervene.
