Things to Consider Before a Chemical Peel

If you have been thinking about having a chemical peel there are some things you should be aware of and take into consideration. Any competent dermatologist is going to discuss these things with you before performing the procedure but if you are planning to do the peel yourself with an at home kit, you should fully consider all of these details. What is a chemical peel?
Before we proceed we should explain exactly what a chemical peel actually is. The skin treatment normally referred to as a chemical peel is a procedure where an acid-based lotion, cream or gel is put on the skin, usually the face, where it loosens the older dead skin cells and allows them to be rinsed away after the chemical solution has been neutralized and removed.
The process of a chemical peel actually strips the skin of its outermost layer as well as all oils and dirt from the surface and out of the pores. Exactly how much skin is removed in the procedure is determined by the acid concentration in the solution that is used as well as how long the chemicals are allowed to remain in contact with the skin before being neutralized.
Things to Think About
One of the most important considerations to take into account is your skins natural sensitivity. If you find your skin to be prone to rashes or other irritations easily, then a chemical peel may not be for you because the chemical peel is going to make these problems worse, at least for several days until your skin has fully healed from the procedure.
It is highly advised that you remain indoors for a couple of days after any chemical peel but especially after a deep peel. The reason you need to stay inside is because your skin doesnt have any of the oils it normally produces and because the layer of skin tat is now exposed has not had a chance to adjust to the air and the unseen contaminates will be irritating to it which can cause problems for you.
What to do after your chemical peel.
We are going to say again that going outdoors for the first couple of days after your chemical peel is an absolute no-no. If, however, you have no choice and must venture into the sun and weather apply a liberal coat of sun block to protect your newly exposed skin from the elements that caused you to need the procedure to begin with. Dont apply any face creams or cosmetics to your skin and try to keep from even touching it for a day or two. All of these things can introduce things to your skin that may irritate it.
While many people simply cannot afford to go to a qualified dermatologist and have to opt for an at home chemical peel, they should still make every effort to collect as much information as possible t help them decide if a chemical peel is right for them. The opinion of a qualified doctor is always the best source for this information but diligent research is the next best option when considering a chemical peel.
