6 Oral Acne Medication Options for Acne Sufferers
January 21, 2009 by David Lam · Leave a Comment
Many teens suffer from various radical changes in emotional, physical and physiological at the onslaught of puberty. One of the most visible transformations is the physical changes. Apart from the males developing more moustache and muscles and females developing their hips and breasts, there is another change which commonly annoys an enormous portion of the adolescent population which known as acne vulgaris!
Acne vulgaris is the scientific name for pimples or acne. Overdevelopment of oil which suddenly occurs to teenagers and sensitivity to dirt are the precursor to this menacing skin disorder. But those two or their combination are not the only cause of acne breakouts. There are many other factors that could trigger acne such as weather conditions, genes and certain substances from food.
Researchers and dermatologists have been trying to discover the best acne medication over the years. But no matter how miniscule a disorder it may seem, acne needs enough attention. These tiny bumps on one's face could elicit major influences on a person.
Not only vanity motivates experts to get or formulate the most effective acne medication, ridicule for having a pockmarked complexion is also one of the leading factors of low self-esteem among adolescents. What's worse is that this lack of confidence may be brought until one reaches his maturity. The following are some most recent forms of acne medication.
Oral Antibiotic Acne Medication
This kind of medication should often be mediated by consulting a physician. Various acne medication antibiotics which may be taken by mouth are recommended by most researches. Assorted antibiotics which act as acne medication are intended for severe and moderate to persistent types of acne. It is very important that a doctor is consulted first on which antibiotics for acne medication is suitable for you.
Cortiscosteroids
Very severe cases of acne may be given with this acne medication antibiotic. This potent antibiotic is generally taken in a short span of time only. They have metabolic impacts that make them inappropriate for long-term use.
Oral Tetracycline
This kind of antibiotic is one of the most popular oral acne medications. Moderate to severe acne may be treated with an initial dose of 500 to 1000 mg per day in a decreasing dosage as skin condition improvement is recorded. This antibiotic is not suitable for the pregnant women because it can cause skeletal defects to fetus. Children with age of under 8 years are also not approved to be given this medication.
Oral Minocycline and Doxycycline
These oral acne medications in the form of antibiotics are directly derived from tetracycline. However research evidences proven that these acne medications are more useful than tetracycline. Doxycycline is used to encourage sunlight sensitivity. Both are suggested not to be used by pregnant women.
Oral Erythromycin
This antibiotic which treats as acne medication may be taken as an alternative to tetracycline as it is safer for pregnant women and young children.
Isotretinoin
This acne medication is said to revolutionize acne treatment since its potent result in dealing with severe and treatment-resistant acne. Some studies have proven that isotretinoin is very effective in treating all forms of acne. However it should be noted that many unsafe side effects are also attributed to isotretinoin. This includes mucous membranes, dryness of the skin and severe birth defects to a fetus. As a result pregnant women, breastfeeding women or those who are planning to become pregnant must not take isotretinoin as a type of acne medication.

When it comes to pimples they have existed for awhile now, especially those big, blossoming red kind of pimples, well you know what we are talking about. So where exactly did the word pimples ever come from? To my knowledge they have always been around.
Although it is not always acne 8% or more of the population are affected by pimples and acne scarring. The usual age to be affected by acne is approximately 12 to 24 years old, but it can affect anyone from baby through adulthood. It seems more and more people are being affected by different kinds of acne.
It may not seem it but the truth is that everyone dreads getting pimples. Many young ladies and young men try to squeeze them but that just makes it worse. This is the wrong thing to do, because it damages the skin and spreads the infection.
The truth is most people dread getting pimples because of the embarrassment of the way they look. Many young people try to pinch or squeeze them with bad results. Of course you can't do more wrong, because this damages the surrounding skin, spreads the infection and leads to acne scars.
The first important step in caring for your acne is, to wash your face gently twice a day with a mild soap or facial cleanser, especially if you wear make up. If your skin is dry just use plain warm water. At one time it was believed you had to scour your skin but DO NOT do this, it will damage the skin and invite scarring.
It may be difficult to find the product that will be best suited to treat your condition . Although lately there have been great improvements in acne prevention and treatment. It can be difficult to pick out the right product for acne treatment when you have to decide on one of many products.
The truth is that there are a lot of home remedies when it comes to acne scar treatment removal. I believe home remedies can be just as effective as synthetic formulas. The benefits of natural home remedies do not have the side effects that chemical ones do.
Are you frustrated because you can't find a remedy to treat your skin problem. Is you're self confidence and you're social life being held for ransom? Go to a Health food store and talk to a knowledgeable person who will get you on the right track to recovery.

December 15, 2008 by Gugu Martini · Leave a Comment
There is nothing new about skin care, it is just in ancient times, herbal products were the only ones available. However, it was the advent of mass production techniques and chemistry that changed the skin care market and lessened the use of natural skin care products. Unfortunately many of these natural formulas where never written down as they were handed down by word of mouth so only a small number remain, there are even people that have never use a herbal product.
There are a number of reasons why we have gradually turned our backs on natural skin care products but probably the biggest is the huge commercial market which herbal preparations could never keep up with. Even herbal skin care products have been commercialized and many commercial herbal skin care products have to be mixed with preservatives in order to increase their shelf-life, hence making them less effective than the fresh ones made at home.
It seems that increasing numbers of people are becoming more discerning and using herbal skin care products again from companies that are specializing in making small batches of these products. Still it will never be a huge market an as no-one really wants to make them in their own home, commercial products are likely to continue; below are a few that you may or may not know of.
Almost everyone has heard of aloe vera but did you know is an excellent skin moisturizer and can treat sunburn, cuts and other skin problems? If you have ever wondered why tea has other herbal additives like dandelion, chamomile, lime flowers and rosemary then it is because they are cleansers and often work better when they are combined with other herbs.
You may not know about the herbal antiseptic qualities of other herbs like lavender, marigold, thyme and fennel and the use of lavender water and rose water have been known to have skin toning properties for a very long time. Tea plays an important part in herbal skin care and tea extracts are used for treatment of skin that has been damaged by UV radiation.
Oils prepared from herbal extracts present another means of herbal skin care like tea tree oil, Lavender oil, borage oil and primrose oil which are some of the more popular oils used in herbal skin care. Bananas, apple and melon have hydration properties and are very good for the skin, which is why so many manufacturers use them in bath and shower gels etc.
Obviously the greatest benefit of using natural products is there is hardly ever any reaction to their use, something that the synthetic products cannot claim. While herbal products will probably remain popular as there are so few reactions to them that there will be times when synthetic products will be necessary for certain skin disorders.
It pays to look after your skin whether by herbal or synthetic means as it has a major role in protecting us from the elements and sometimes needs a little help.

December 1, 2008 by Marcel Stephenson · 1 Comment
Acne is something neither of my parents told me about, yet they both went through their teens, with acne problems of their own. I truly wished, they both would have had a talk with me before I became the scourge of the universe.
To tell the truth, they did talk to me about my little condition. But what they told me didn't give me much hope for my outbreaks. I had to try to find my own solution to the problem, since my parents never discovered it for themselves. Sad, don't you think?
When changing into an adult, we go through hormonal changes. Our hormones are affecting the oils that secretes from our sweat glands, which are bodies are not very impressed by. It's all very oily and loaded with bacteria. Since this a natural process, almost all teenagers are hit by acne at some point.
Our skin pores become loaded with this bacteria and dead skin cells that clog the pores of our faces, shoulders, necks, backs and other places too. These pimples we get are the acne. The acne is basically a reaction to this hormonal change.
Here are some helpful tips.
1. Don't believe the hype about the acne products.
You will go to the drugstore to get some acne treatments. You can't help yourself, because the drugstore is right down the street.
There are a lot of crap products being sold over the counter. Some of these work, some doesn't. If you know what you are looking for, you will find some awesome products that really work. Look, first, at the active ingredients. Look at the "caution" label. If it says that the product might cause skin irritation, you might want to let it go for now.
2. Don't scrub or start popping the zits.
Popping zits is one of the worst things you can do, and must stop now. It will only spread more bacteria to your already infected pores. Scrubbing your face raw is also something that has to stop. This irritates the infected area, and can spread the infection even further.
When your pimples are ready to pop, they will. The urge to pop these zits can be overwhelming, They itch and hurt. Let them pop on their own accord. This way, you are not impacting the pore and causing it to be more swollen and infected later.
3. Change your lifestyle.
What ever you put into your body will come out of it. If you eat already processed food, such as a bag of potato chips, your body, the organic food processor, doesn't have to work very hard to digest the food.
Your body is trying to get rid of that oily, hormonal mess. You can help your body by eating healthier, and not adding to that mess. By doing this you have less acne breakouts.
4. Try the miracle cures, before seeing a dermatologist.
There are a lot of miracle cures to cure acne quickly. You might have seen some of them on the TV commercials. Try these before you go to the dermatologist. The dermatologist is the last resort. You don't have anything to lose. If they work, good for you. If they don't work, maybe it's time to book an appointment by the dermatologist.

November 26, 2008 by David Lam · Leave a Comment
Acne scar is caused by the body's response to injury caused by inflammatory acne lesions. Most often, scarring results from severe nodular acne that occurs deep in the skin. However scarring also may arise from more superficial inflamed lesions.
The acne scars that most people having are mild type. Some of the scars are look significant even to others. Prevention and to treat acne right away will be the best approach among all as sometimes even mild acne can cause scarring and this will minimize the risk of permanent acne scars. By using the acne scar removal that I recommended in my website will help you to get rid of acne scars.
Below are the 2 reasons due to the types of tissue response to the inflammation of acne:
Increased Tissue Formation
Increased tissue formation can causes the formation of acne scars which called keloids or hypertrophic scars. They usually look like lumps and are the most common types that bulge out. As the excessive amounts of collagen production, both scars can be form with an exaggerated formation of scar tissue.
Overproduction of collagen is a response of skin cells to injury. It will become piled up in fibrous masses and form an irregularly-shaped scar. Sometimes, size of it will goes far beyond what would be expected from what seems to be a minor injury. It is kind of an 'over-scarring' which are more commonly occur in dark-skinned individual.
Loss of Tissues
Acne scars resulting from loss of tissue are more common than scars resulting from increased tissue formation. Some appear as holes, pits, or craters in the skin which called atrophic scar or crateriform scars. These depressed, cavity-like, inward-directed scars are associated with a lack of tissue that occurs when the inflammation from healed acne causes destruction to the skin. The scar tissue contracts and binds the skin down.
Facing acne scar can be tough, but you can do it. There are lots of acne scar removal which based on the kinds of scars you have and the kind of skin you have. However some people have a combination of different types of scars so that one acne scar treatment may not work on them all.

Adult acne treatment can be a long drawn out process that may seem to have no end. Treatment for acne can be very hit or miss and take months or years to determine. There are things you can do, however, to facilitate your search for an acne solution - the first being trying to find a way to reduce your stress levels. Mental and emotional stress can translate to physical illness.
Hormone fluctuation and adult acne onset are often linked. After a woman has a child, she may suddenly experience a surge in acne outbreaks, pointing to a hormonal imbalance. Occasionally men will have hormone related acne as well, but it is not as common - men don't have adult acne as often as women, either. Adult acne in men does tend to be more severe.
For women, a good adult acne treatment is often simply birth control pills. The BCPs provide stability to fluctuating hormones, reducing acne outbreaks. Some women prefer to take herbs rather than birth control to regulate their hormones. Some options may not be available to pregnant women, as even herbal remedies may not be safe.
Treatment for acne in men is often a daily dose of antibiotics for six to eight weeks. Antibiotics are generally prescribed for severe acne such as cystic or nodular types. Using antibiotics for a long time can make them less effective, so be careful. Learn the name of every drug you take, especially antibiotics.
Adult onset acne can be embarrassing and awkward. You may have thought you left acne behind as a teen, and feel depressed or angry. These feelings are perfectly normal, but should be dealt with. If you feel suicidal, get help immediately - acne isn't worth feeling that depressed over!.
It can a lot of hard work to see results from adult acne treatment. It takes up to eight weeks to declare a course of action a victory or failure. Try to hasten the elimination process by noting each day what seems to work and what doesn't. This journal can help you keep track of everything you have tried.
There are several methods on the market that brag they are the best treatment for acne. Each one has benefits for a different set of people. The key is finding one that addresses the root cause of your acne. Be skeptical of ones that say your acne will be gone in three days!
A quick cure for adult onset acne doesn't exist. Using a different product every day will only confuse things. Pick one treatment and commit to it until you see if it is going to work or not before moving on. It will take a while, but eventually you will succeed.
If you suffer from adult onset acne, know you are not alone. There are hundreds of acne patients waiting anxiously for the nest treatment for acne to be developed. Each person will find that there is a specific adult acne treatment that stops outbreaks and improves their life. The hard part is the search for the cure, but once you find it you will know it was worth it.

November 17, 2008 by Jim Bolding · Leave a Comment
Nodular or cystic acne is the most unpleasant, painful type to have, the hardest to get rid of, and the most damaging to skin. Many victims search for years to find an effective cystic acne treatment, only to be disappointed again and again. The problem with cystic acne is that it is more difficult to pinpoint a reason for it, and many standard courses of treatment often prove ineffective.
Treating cystic acne with antibiotics is often the first course of action recommended by medical doctors. A twofold approach is often taken, combining a topical antibiotic with an oral version to combat the bacteria both without and within. The main problem with prolonged antibiotic therapy is the tendency for the body to become inured to it, rendering it ineffective over time.
The next sets of doctors are the dermatologists. They favor light therapy, lasers and chemical peels to strip your face down to basics and start over. Cystic acne may respond or it may not; that depends on the reason for the outbreak and what other steps you have taken.
You can of course go online and surf looking for a natural cystic acne treatment. One word of warning: look out for snake oil salesmen. There will always be those who seek to profit from the misery of others, so try to find a real person to vouch for whatever product you decide to try. Many remedies will work for one person and not another, so check around for people with similar conditions and see what they have used.
If you are very brave, you may decide to have your zits lanced like boils. This should never be done at home - a sterile environment and instruments are essential! You may not even want to go down this road - as many doctors point out, lancing leaves open wounds that are ripe for further bacterial infection.
An old wives cure for cystic acne is a dab of raw honey on each zit, or to use an oatmeal facemask to absorb toxins and scrub your face clean. Nodular acne might respond to lemon juice, toothpaste or even a vinegar face rinse. The various methods work differently from person to person because of physiological differences.
A more cutting edge remedy requires a bit of self-discipline - a diet is imposed and herbal pills are introduced. A flushing of the system is usually expected, to clear toxins from the blood, and haywire hormones will be calmed and tamed. Celebrities may tout an acne clearing cream or rinse as being the optimal solution, but do a little checking just in case!
The hardest thing about cystic acne treatment is the long four to six weeks it takes to see if a remedy will work or not. Do your best to move things along by eating healthy and keeping hygiene as a top priority. Natural cures take time to bring everything into balance - but once it works, acne is gone, gone, GONE.
Treating nodular or cystic acne may take time, trial and error, but persistence will pay off in the end. There is a safe, effective, natural cystic acne treatment for everyone, including you. One day your cystic acne will be a thing of the past, and you will be glad you never gave up!

November 10, 2008 by Celeste Lynne · 1 Comment
If you think that only teenagers get acne, you couldn't be further from the truth. Adults can easily get acne too. If you know someone with adult acne, or if you have it yourself, you can get rid of it. All you have to do is learn everything you possibly can about it and learn to separate urban acne legends from the true ways to remove acne.
What is acne? Well, acne it a fairly common skin condition. Normally, the skin produces oils, which help it to stay moisturized. When the skin gets too oily, though, the pores get plugged up. That causes pus-filled pimples and cysts to appear on the skin. Those pimples and cysts are both ugly and, usually, uncomfortable.
Causes of Acne
Diet plays a role in acne, according to many people. That may well be true, but it isn't the only cause. It's only a contributing factor. There are many things that can create an acne problem.
Everyone has oil glands that help to moisturize their skin. If your glands produce too much oil, it can definitely cause or contribute to your acne problem. Also, if dirt or other debris clogs your pores, that can create acne issues too. In fact, anything that causes your skin to be irritated or inflamed can cause acne.
Clear Pimples From Your Skin
Proper skin care is a major first step towards clearing up your acne issues. To take care of your skin properly, you need to avoid adding extra oil to it, since it's probably already too oily. By using oil-free skin care products and make up, you can really make a difference in your skin quality. In fact, it's also very important to remove all of your make up in the evenings, before you go to bed for the night. That way, you won't leave oils on your skin all night long.
There are many acne treatment options out there and, depending on how severe your acne problem is, you might have to explore several options. It can take time to find an acne solution that isn't just a quick fix, after all. You need to be willing to keep an open mind and make yourself aware of all of the acne treatments that are out there.
When it comes to acne treatments, the good news is that there are tons of options available. You could use creams or ointments, if you have a mild case. You could even make your own acne remedies right in your own home. If you have severe acne, though, you may need medical intervention to treat it. You should definitely consult your doctor or a dermatologist, if that's the case. They can help you to find the right treatment, which could include prescription medication. Although, they may just recommend a few changes in your diet or routine.
Clearer skin is not impossible. All you have to do is find the right acne treatment and remember to use it. You need to be consistent. If you skip treatments, your acne problems will never clear up, after all. So, follow the instructions on the treatment labels or from your doctor and clear up your acne quickly.
