The History of Skincare in the Eastern World

April 14, 2011 by Emma Johnson · Leave a Comment

Whitening is one of the hottest skincare concerns, especially in the eastern world. Easterners (particularly Japanese and Chinese) think that white skin covers a hundred of other skin imperfections. As Japanese and Chinese have yellowish complexion, whitening skincare products are the best selling products among all other skincare products in China and Japan.

Light complexion was considered as a sign for elegant and educated nobles and higher social classes in the ancient China. Therefore, women in ancient China put a lot of effort to maintain light complexion. There was an oracle word meaning facial cleansing in the ancient Zhou Dynasty.

Chinese medical science has becoming more recognized by the world. In fact, medicines for skincare purpose were also found in ancient medical records in the Qin Dynasty. For example, Angelica Dahurica (Bai Zhi) was recorded as an ingredient for facial cream.

Skincare products including facial and hand creams were popular among both ordinary and noble women. Skincare products were considered as necessary by every woman.

Women in Japan put a lot of effort on skincare and cosmetic as well. In the ancient Japan, noble people lived in very big houses. These houses had very dim light. Therefore, it is easier to notice people who have white skin (lighter complexion). Such notice prevents one from crashing on the others. Therefore, noble women paint their faces in white. Since then, women with white skin (light complexion) are considered as beautiful.

The first whitening skincare product, SOIE DE REINE Beauty C Powder was introduced in Japan in 1966. This powder was produced by the famous Japanese skincare brand, Kanebo. Kanebo introduced many other whitening skincare products later on and it is still a famous skincare brand nowadays. In the last century, the concepts of UV protection and Melanin reduction have been introduced by Kanebo. Now, these concepts are still prevailing in skincare (skin whitening) industry.

The Effects of Sleep on Muscle Gain

September 3, 2009 by Delki Jola · Leave a Comment

Building muscle takes a lot of concentrated effort and exercise. And since you have to put so much effort into gaining muscle you want to make sure you feed your body right and get enough sleep to really have your workouts pay off. However, there are some negative side effects where gaining muscle is concerned if you don't get enough rest. The simple fact is that when you sleep your muscles grow from the efforts you put into your workouts. So, getting plenty of rest is very important if you really want to gain muscle. Otherwise, your efforts will not be rewarded.

Overtraining is a severely bad physical and mental state which occurs from training without adequate recovery. Overtraining can also be caused by excessive intensity of weight training and not giving the body enough time for rest and recovery. Not only is overtraining common in weight lifting, but it can also be experienced by runners and other athletes as well. Studies show that 10-20% of intensely trained athletes are currently overtrained.

Additionally, all sleep is not made equal. There are five stages of sleep and if you are like most people leading stress filled lives you never make it past stage 1 or 2. Because of this you wake up feeling as tired and drained of energy as when you went to bed. If this is the type of sleep you are getting then it will not be overly productive in helping you gain and build muscle while you are asleep. On the other hand, if you can practice deep breathing, meditation, or other stress relieving activities before you go to sleep then you will more than likely be able to reach stages 4 and 5 where your body can heal, repair, and grow. These are the stages of sleep you need to reach if you are really interested in muscle gain. However, since your body reacts to a lot of different elements in your life you can't just focus on muscle gain, but must also focus on stress relief, eating right, and exercising on a regular basis.

Deep sleep is important because during this phase the body is able to repair the muscles that were torn or broken during the workout. Also, while you are in deep sleep your body also begins the process of Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demand. During this process, known as SAID, your body builds your muscles bigger and stronger so that when you workout again your muscles will be ready. This is the process of gaining true muscles and if you want to build muscles you will be sure that you not only workout properly, but that you also get plenty of deep rest to help your body do its job and reward you for working out by building your muscles bigger and stronger.Visit website http://divorceinfo.com/heo/index.php?action=profile;u=69439

An additional benefit of this, which not many people know, is how your body gets the energy to perform these muscle building activities while you rest. The answer is from fat. That is right, while you are in deep sleep and your body is working hard to repair and build your muscles it uses your fat stores to do so. So, not only are you building muscle but you are also burning fat simply by getting a proper amount of sleep, which most people won't complain about anyway.Go to site

What’s in a word-especially a word like “fat”

April 8, 2011 by Delki Jola · Leave a Comment

Possibly, you have heard the term but do not really understand it. What does your body fat percentage mean? Essentially, it is an estimate of the fraction of the total body mass that is fat mass, or adipose tissue rather than lean body mass such as muscle, bone, organ tissue, blood and all the rest. Lean body mass also goes under the name of fat free mass. Keeping track of your body fat percentage helps you to monitor your progress during a diet. It also serves as a measure of physical fitness for sports like bodybuilding.

Here are ten small steps you can take to start losing weight. Start wherever you'd like, whenever you'd like. What's best is that you do this on your own terms rather than following some strict, rigid plan that nobody can follow to the T. Try taking one step every week or two until you've added each one into your life. You'll find that by the time you're done you'll feel better physically as well as mentally.

Total body fat percentage comprises of fat essential to the metabolism as well as stored fat. Essential fat is indispensable in terms of maintaining life and reproductive functions of the body. The essential body fat percentage is greater for women than that for men because their bodies have to deal with the demands of childbearing and other hormonal functions. According to the accepted norms, essential fat is 2-5% for men and 10-13% for women. The minimum total body fat percentage recommended by medical professionals is more than this essential fat percentage. Storage fat refers to the fat accumulation in adipose tissue. Some of the adipose tissue is essential for protecting internal organs in the chest and abdomen and it is slightly higher for women than for men.

There are various methods for measuring body fat percentage. However, the two most poplar methods are the skin-fold method and the height-circumference method. In the skin-fold method, the tester measures a pinch of skin with special calipers at several standardized points on the body. In this way, one can determine the layer thickness of the subcutaneous fat (fat below the skin). The tester then converts these measurements to an estimated body fat percentage with the help of an equation. Depending on the formula employed, the tester may take as few as three measurements or as many as seven.Visit website http://www.eduwebconference.com/index.php/member/63705/

In fact, it probably took some special indulgences to eat enough to get overweight. In a world where starvation or malnourishment was a far bigger risk than obesity, an overweight person might well be suspected of undue indulgence.Go to site http://www.crofting.org/index.php/forums/member/93677/

Roll Your Cellulite Away with a Cellulite Spa Roller

May 7, 2009 by Benton Beartoes · Leave a Comment

by Benton Beartoes

Nowadays there is lots of money to be made in ailments and physical problems. Cellulite one such medical condition that hasn't been spared this however the cellulite spa roller has taken a different approach to cellulite reduction. Cellulite is fat that accumulates under your skin usually around the lower part of your body.

Although it is a condition that affects both men and women, the consequences are more gravely noticeable in women. It may sound like cellulite only affects us when we are in our late 30's but that is where most of us go wrong. The condition of cellulite can affect an individual as early as fifteen. The causes of cellulite have not been completely verified but most doctors agree that it can be genetic or a result of an unhealthy lifestyle.

The visual affect that cellulite has on the human body is quite sad indeed. The skin in the affected area becomes loose and flabby and appears to be all dimpled. Tightening the muscle is the obvious solution but getting rid of cellulite once stored is not an easy task. Cellulite Spa Roller is the answer.

There are many remedies you can resort to if you find yourself I this situation. The natural methods include eating the right stuff and exercising, the other extreme would be surgical procedures such as liposuction I would suggest that you resort to the latter strategies as a last resort.

Some procedures lie in the middle of these two extremes such as the cellulite spa roller. Let's take a peak at a natural method. Exercising is important taking brisk walks and correct breathing is imperative. Also building lean muscle mass also helps eliminate the year of fat as the muscles begin to stretch the skin and begins to melt the cellulite layer.

Cycling, yoga, swimming, climbing stairs, using cellulite spa roller etc. also help. The main idea is just to loosen the cellulite cells so that they melt easily. Also massages to different parts of the body can also help your cause. There are special oils that can be used along with the cellulite spa roller to help increase the circulation in your body.

Even if you opt for surgical procedures there are many options that individuals face, such as liposuction, lymphatic drainage massage, tri-active laser, and patch contour etc.

Between these two extremes of cellulite removal lies a commercial product called the cellulite spa roller. The system is accompanied with a spa roller, exfoliate, circulatory gel, and a great set of instructions.

The basis of this product is a very simply yet effective principle. The gel is first applied on the body part where fat needs to be removed from, the part is then exfoliate and the area is gently massaged. After this the spa roller is rolled smoothly over the gel and you begin to see remarkable results.

Although the word 'spa' is used to describe the product, the cost does not reach the limits of the sky as expected. The cellulite spa roller, which is a combination of natural theory and modern productivity, can be bought and used at home with the same satisfying results as the spa itself.

Smoking and Cellulite

April 23, 2009 by El Bilson · Leave a Comment

by El Bilson

You may have wondered if smoking and cellulite go hand in hand. Smoking is one of the most widely practiced bad habits in the United States. The habit slowly destroys your lungs and leaves you at greater risk for lung cancer, throat cancer, and mouth cancer. And while smoking causes problems with all organs of the body, it also deteriorates the quality of your skin.

Cigarette smoke contains many different chemicals - among them, cyanide, benzene, formaldehyde, methanol, acetylene (the fuel used in welding torches), and ammonia. Each of the chemicals found in cigarette smoke are harmful to the body. Some of them are lethal if consumed in any other form, so its no surprise that these toxins can lead to various skin disorders.

One of the ways smoking damages your skin is by affecting collagen. Collagen is the main structural protein of the skin. It helps keep the skin firm and taut. Collagen is also a component of everything from blood vessels to organs. Naturally as a person ages, the cells of the body gradually produces less collagen. Smoking accelerates the breakdown of collagen in the skin and in the body. Collagen breakdown starts at a younger age and a faster rate for regular smokers.

In addition to collagen loss, the body's production of hyaluronic acid is affected by smoking. Hyaluronic acid is a compound produced in the body that adds fullness and tautness to the skin. It helps prevent the hollow look that is often seen in older skin. It works by helping the cells retain moisture. As with collagen, the body naturally produces less hyaluronic acid as it ages. But the free radicals that are either present in cigarette smoke breaks down the chains of hyaluronic acid, leading damaged skin cells.

Both of these problems have great effects on cellulite. Firm skin is able to retain moisture and will be able to better hide the fat that cellulite is present. Think of skin like fabric. Healthy skin is like denim, and can better hide cellulite infected thighs. But skin that has been ravaged by years of smoking is more like spandex - stretchy, weak, and unable to hide anything.

Smoking also affects the quality of the blood and lymphatic vessels. This is due to the fact that both compounds are major components in the pipes that support our blood and lymphatic fluids. Smoking damages the vessels in our body, making them less able to transport nutrients to the organs that need them, including the skin. Smoking also affects blood flow by constricting the vessels. Both of these side effects contribute to poor nutrient transport and fluid retention which can lead to an increase in cellulite.

The only upside to the effects of smoking and cellulite is that the effects of smoking are not seen for awhile. In fact, if you are a younger adult, many of the physical problems that come with smoking may actually be reversed by living a healthy lifestyle. However, the longer you wait, the more irreversible damage that will be done to your body.

Fitness – Weight Loss Center

March 30, 2009 by Dani Maurer · Leave a Comment

by Dani Maurer

Weight loss centers are often used to describe weight loss programs that are locally operated. If this is your first time looking to join a weight loss center, you may be unsure as to what you should look for in one. An important part of joining a weight loss center is finding the weight loss center that is perfect for you and your own personal needs. For that reason, there are a number of factors, which are outlined below, that you will want to take into consideration.

One of the many factors that you will want to take into consideration, when looking for a weight loss center to join, is the location. With gas prices high, many individuals find it difficult to travel long distances. You will have to pay money to become a member at a weight loss center; therefore, you should be careful about adding on extra costs, like the cost of gasoline, to your membership. If, at all possible, you should look for weight loss centers that are conveniently located either close to your home or your place of business.

Speaking of costs, as previously mentioned, you will have to pay to become a member of a weight loss center. This cost will vary depending on the weight loss center in question. On average, most weight loss center memberships are around twenty or thirty dollars a month. With that in mind, it is doable to find weight loss centers that cost more money. If you are on a budget, a weight loss center membership fee may have an impact on the weight loss center that you chose to become a member at.

Although it is important to find a weight loss center that you can afford, you don?t want to have your decision be based solely on costs. You will want to take the time to examine each weight loss center that you come across. For instance, you should be able to find some weight loss centers that only have weekly or monthly meetings or weigh-ins for members to attend. On the other hand, there are weight loss centers that may have exercise classes or a fitness gym, which you should gain access to as a member. If you are able to find a quality weight loss center or one that comes highly rated and recommend, higher membership fees may be worth it.

With the internet, it is easy to review a company or a program, like a weight loss program. With a standard internet search, preferably with the name of the weight loss center in question, you should be able to come across program reviews or online discussions. Research is not only a great way to find weight loss centers that have great reviews, but it is also a great way to learn of any weight loss centers that you should avoid or ones that are known for not being worth the costs.

Although many weight loss centers come highly rated and recommended, it is important to find the weight loss center that can best fit you and your needs.

Powerful Techiniques to Banish Cellulite

March 7, 2009 by John Alvino · 1 Comment

by John Alvino

"Cellulite" is a frightening term to most women. It is the ugliest form of body fat which tends to appear on or around the upper thighs and buttocks area and is usually described as looking like cottage cheese.

But perhaps the worst thing about cellulite is that once it finds its way to your body, it is very difficult to get rid of. Even though it is essentially just body fat, it does not go away with normal fat loss methods. Instead, staring in the face of a solid diet and exercise routine, it stubbornly hangs on for dear life, refusing to give your butt and thighs the tight, smooth appearance you are working so hard to achieve.

Why is it that women seem to have problems with cellulite and men do not? Some experts have stated that estrogen can play a significant role in the development of cellulite although there are many theories on what causes the unsightly fat. Toxins in the body can be another cause of cellulite and simply stated carrying too much body fat in certain areas can also be a culprit.

I have recently interviewed an internationally respected plastic surgeon about the topic of cellulite. He has performed infinite liposuction surgeries on women who suffer from this type of fat so his opinion is helpful.

He says he has an explanation for the hideous "cottage cheese" look which is so commonly related to cellulite. Basically, the fat cells will begin to bulge and move to the skin's surface if your connective tissue flexibility is less than adequate.

The actual cause of cellulite if not completely understood by the general public but perhaps one of the theories listed above can shed some light on the topic. I personally believe that the cause of cellulite is most logically attributed to that of genetics but there is a good possibility that it is a combination of theories.

Fortunately, whatever the cause may be, I have created a groundbreaking plan to easily rid you of your hard-to-lose cellulite. My step-by-step program targets all suspected causes of cellulite formation. Now let me share with you my surefire system!

1) Improve the integrity of your connective tissue. This is best done by eating foods that are rich in vitamin C and bioflavonoids. Some foods that are particularly good for this are: citrus fruits, peppers, all types of berries, cherries, grapefruits, oranges and green leafy vegetables.

2) Flush the toxins out of your body. The easiest way to begin this process is to drink plenty of pure water. Be sure to drink at least half of your bodyweight in ounces daily.

3) Eliminate unneccesary toxins. Although some toxins just cannot be avoided (such as pollution) others can easily be eliminated from your body--and life. Drinking, smoking, and taking unneccesary medications are avoidable toxins you should be aware of and cutting back or cutting out of your daily routine.

4) Be aware of your estrogen levels. To do this, ensure you are consuming plenty of cruciferious veggies. What are cruiferious veggies you may ask? Try broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower--these contain something called I3C which is a substance proven to affect estrogen metobolism in a postive way-they can also help to remove toxins in the body.

5) Lose excess body fat the right way. Although cellulite has some unique characteristics, it is still body fat. So if you were to lose body fat correctly, you would minimize or completely lose that cottage cheese appearance.

Lets start by addressing your diet. You should use a diet that doesnt allow your insulin levels to get too high. High insulin levels prevent cellulite from being burned, thus making your fat loss efforts much more difficult. To keep insulin levels in the optimal range, you should eliminate sugar, red meat and processed foods from your diet. Now lets address the exercise protocol.

Unfortunately, most of us know that your average fat loss techniques don't remove stubborn cellulite. You can do aerobics all week and still have that pesky cottage cheese-looking fat appear on your body. Obviously this isn't the best approach to cellulite removal so let's examine some better ideas...

Instead, you should engage in high-intensity sprint training. Sprinting works the hamstrings (back of the legs) and glutes effectively while elevating your metabolism a great deal.

Couple this with resistance exercises that targets the affected area while simultaneously stimulating lean muscle, and you have a powerful exercise program that will enable you to lose cellulite quickly. Some of my favorite resistance exercises for losing cellulite are: KB Swings, Single Leg Romanian Deadlifts and Band Good Mornings.

Cellulite doesnt have to be a permanent part of who you are. Start this plan today and lose your cellulite forever!

Cellulite Cream and Treatment for the Perfect Body

February 22, 2009 by Ila Moave · 1 Comment

by Ila Moave

Of all the cellulite treatments available using a cellulite cream has to be one of the most popular. Its popularity is due to the fact that it is an easy, non-surgical and non-invasive treatment. But the hundreds of lotions and creams for sale can make it difficult to choose a cream that suits your personal situation.

If you have ever suffered from cellulite then you know that it is when the skin gets a dimpled look. Often it is seen on the stomach, thighs, hips or buttocks. However, others areas on the body can be affected by it. The condition is embarrassing for many women who tend to avoid swimsuits or short clothing to cover up their affected areas.

The cellulite condition occurs when the honeycomb like structures that house the thin layer of fat just beneath the skin begin to break down. As a result the fat begins to bulge and the skin starts to dimple. Toxins begin to accumulate, as well as fluid, worsening the condition.

This breakdown can be caused - among other things - by aging, genetics, poor dietary habits, smoking or alcohol. Excessive weight gain and dehydration are also factors that make the condition more pronounced. When you skin is dehydrated it will be more prone to dimpling. If you are overweight, fat is added to the thin layer beneath skin leading to more and larger dimples.

The best cellulite treatments will treat the cellulite condition directly. When investigating what treatment will work for your keep in mind that a good treatment will help the body to remove the fat deposits, make the skin more elastic and improve the skin's hydration.

When examining the ingredient of a particular cream you will want to make sure that they are known to help the condition. Coffee, green tea and seaweed are well known to help reduce cellulite fat deposits. Emu oil is known to improve the firmness and smoothness of the skin and has been used by Australian aboriginals for centuries to improve skin health.

Other ingredients that are common in cellulite creams include Aloe Vera and Aloe leaf, Hyaluronic Acid and Matrixyl. Hyaluronic improves the moisture of the skin while Matrixyl strengths the skin. There are many other ingredients that can be found to remove cellulite.

It is important that you fully investigate the ingredients of a cream to ensure that you are getting value for money. If you are unsure there are many resources on the internet that can help you.

Cellulite cream is only just one treatment which is available to treat this condition. Other treatments can include massage, laser therapy, radio waves and wraps. These may also be worth a look.

Cellulite Treatments for a Perfect Body

February 18, 2009 by Franca Bellucia · Leave a Comment

by Franca Bellucia

Women suffer from cellulite more than men with over 90 percent of females having cellulite at some point in their lives. This is because of the higher fat content that women have when compared to men. Often people believe that cellulite is caused by being overweight but this is not necessarily the case with many thin women suffering from the condition.

The media often makes many women feel that are abnormal if they have cellulite. But this if far from the case. Many famous celebrities and models suffer from cellulite except it is well covered by makeup and special affects.

The cause of cellulite is found right below the layer of skin. Here, there is thin pockets of fat which are contained in honeycomb like structures. If this fat begin the bulge from this honeycomb then cellulite starts and dimpling appears on the upper side of the skin.

Most often cellulite is found in the buttocks, hips and thighs but can occur in other areas. The condition is often due to the genes that you inherit from your parents. This is why even skinny people can suffer from it. If you have thin skin for example, the cellulite will be more noticeable.

Genes are not the only cause, however. Other risk factors can include being overweight, alcohol, caffeine, medication like the contraceptive pill, a lack of exercise, a slow metabolism and not enough water. This a short list of the most common risk factors but if you have cellulite you should take a look to see if any of these maybe a contributing cause.

Age is another major risk factor. As a woman gets older the skin begins to lose its strength and elasticity, and the structure that keeps the fat underneath the skin in place starts to lose its ability to secure the fat.

The first step in fighting back against cellulite is to change your life. Drink plenty of water, exercise and consume more fruit and vegetables. Eliminate the bad foods such as coffee, chocolate and those high in fats.

Make sure when developing your exercise program that you balance your cardio with weight bearing exercises. Don't worry about getting bulky. Women are unable develop large muscle. Instead concentrating on doing a well round routine that will increase your calorie count.

If you like you can try other treatments like creams and lotions, massage or laser therapy. There is a wealth of information available on these different cellulite treatments and with a little bit of research you will find out which treatment is best for you.
